Best Locations in Kentucky for family photo shoots!

After 13 years of running all over Kentucky for family and children’s portrait sessions, I consider myself an expert on finding GREAT locations for outdoor portraits.  Here are a few of my new and old faithful favorites.  The time of day will depend on your family photographer of course, but here are some examples of my go-to locations.

Highway 80 (Eastern Kentucky) . . .

All over Hwy 80,  there are beautiful mountain tops  dying for a cute family to plop themselves among the tall grass and rocks for a family photo.  Mountain tops are beautiful at sunset, offer plenty of space for spinning, twirling, or running free.  Mountain tops illuminate the bond between family members at sunset, wrapping them in a blissful glow that is simply gorgeous.

Another great location I have been loving lately is The Henry Clay Estate  in Lexington Kentucky.  The address is 120 Sycamore Road, Lexington, KY 40502.  This location is beautiful for every season.  Make sure and take a tour of the mansion while you are there.  Tours are available everyday except Monday.  Here are some of my favorite images from Henry Clay.

Other favorite places in Eastern Kentucky are Bobby Davis Park, Hazard, KY, Camp Nathanael, Emmalena, KY and Wendover Bed & Breakfast, Hyden, KY.

If packing up sounds like too much work for a photo shoot, try your own backyard!  I love to venture outside with a family’s own surroundings as the background.  Most clients think their houses aren’t the perfect place for a family photo shoot, well, they are wrong!  Look at these images from client’s own backyards and family homes in Eastern Kentucky.
