Hey, everyone who follows my blog…I’ve got a great idea! To break up the monotony of my blog, I’ve decided to add a new category, “Expression of the Week”…
This will be an image I post every Thursday to grab your attention in some way…
Hope you enjoy!
This shot is hilarious! I love the way the wind blew Bryce’s hair just at the moment he showed me his true personality!

At the end of the year we will have a contest with all the “Expression of the Week” images and have all our fans vote on their favorite image for a GRAND CHAMPION winner. It will cost a dollar to vote and all the proceeds will go to the charity, “OPERATION SMILE”…
June 13, 2010 - 10:34 am - Oh this is so funny! I love the hair, the expression, and the idea! Fun!
Here’s baby Griffin . . . with his proud big sister Alayna! I’ve been photographing her for years now so it was an adjustment for both of us to allow another person into our little world. But, I think we pulled it off . . .

Enjoy the highlight video and then scroll down to see some of my favorite images…

The wedding took place at the beautiful Allandale Mansion in Kingsport, TN… this shot was taken in the doorway and is one of my favorites!

now that’s a great looking bunch of guys!

The reception was decorated by Jill at Just Ask Rental in Clintwood, VA. You can email her at jillmullins@hughes.net

Brenda was my favorite person of the day! We had connection and laughed everytime we got together. Thanks for all your help!

The ceremony was my favorite part of this wedding. I was fortunate enough to have a beautiful angle that’s not always possible in a church, (have I mentioned I LOVE outdoor weddings?)

The reception was at an old barn on the grounds…

The beautiful video light was provided by the most awesome CINEMATOGRAPHER I know, Thomas Young from LAKE POINT FILMS
Thomas and Jerome add just the right spice to video to create a true film of any event or wedding day. I hope Thomas is around when my children get married!

As I walked back to my van, I snapped this last one…

Thanks to everyone who made this day so perfect for Sara and Brian. I am truly blessed to have been a part of this day. Sara has been a bridesmaid in two other weddings I’ve had the honor of phot0graphing. Thanks again, Kristen & Justin Sturgill, Holly & Andrew Tucker and their wonderful friends and family who continue to make this group of girls shine, time after time….

July 19, 2010 - 5:29 pm - Hey Suzanne! Any of Lily Grace?
Nostalgia, a word meaning “a yearning for the past”, often idealized in our memories . . .
8 track records,
Drive-In theaters ( I used to live beside one growing up. I’ve seen “Grease” as many times without sound as with)…Just as I finished looking at my Teen Beat magazine and kissing Luke Duke goodnight, I’d peer out my window just in time to see Rizzo clutching her books and mouthing the words, “there are worse things I could do, than go with a boy or two”…
Route 66 and the Open Road, “Where’s the Beef” ad campaigns, cartoons on Saturdays only, tin lunch boxes, Barbie and Ken…
Ahhh…and Jeep Grande Cherokee…

“Gas costs how much?”

My vision for the above photographs were definitely inspired by these beautiful children, the vintage Waggoneer and the beautiful homes of Alexa and Linda Cornett! Thank you Danielle for trusting me with your babies and for letting me run with this idea!
What makes you feel nostalgic? Comments are welcome! Oh, and if anyone would like to schedule a BLAST FROM THE PAST session for August, September or October, call us today 606-436-1988 or email me: suzanne@photosbysuzanne.com An art-piece like no other is just waiting at the tip of my imagination, with your children as the inspiration!

July 26, 2010 - 10:30 pm - I actually met the little lady from the "Where's the beef?" commercials while I was in Disney World on a vacation during high school. Somewhere, I've got a pic of me....with my Jaclyn Smith feathered hair...and the little lady.
July 27, 2010 - 10:10 am - I love these photos. I would have never thought of using this vehicle but they are great!

Carson and Brady had me rolling on the floor during their session, seriously!! You would never know it by these stoic looks on their faces. A tape recorder would have been great. I’ve told everyone I know the things they said. Enjoy these years Megan and thank you!

Local Photographer’s Work Goes to International Exhibition, June 17th, 2011
Photographs created by Suzanne Deaton of Suzanne Deaton Photography in Hazard, KY have recently been accepted into the Loan and General Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2011 International Photographic Competition. Deaton’s work will be on display at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, January 15-17, 2012, in New Orleans, La. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of professional photographers and several photographic associations. You can view the images here!
A panel of eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 4,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, over 1,500 images were selected for the General Collection and just over 600 (15 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book, and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.
Allowed up to four entries per year, all four of Deaton’s were accepted into the General Collection, one of Deaton’s images titled “Howdy” will be published in this showcase book and “Purgatory” in the Loan Collection book. All four prints were created from client sessions showing her dedication to technique and artistry every day.
“Purgatory”, Deaton’s top scoring entry will be in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center alongside other photographic works from PPA’s photographic competition and traveling and special invitational displays. These images constitute one of the world’s largest annual exhibits of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof. “Purgatory” also won an elusive Kodak Gallery Award, The Bob Walden Best Black and White Award, 1st Place Senior Portrait Award and finally Best of Show at the state level back in January.

Summer senior sessions book fast for a reason … they’re in high demand! Many of the senior girls say “… while I’ve still got my tan!” or “while the flowers are still in bloom!” The boys say “… while I’m fishing on the dock or water-skiing.” or “on the baseball field while the hills are still green.” Whatever the reason be, once we announce that summer sessions are available for seniors, it’s best to get them before they’re all gone!

The Davis Family has trusted us to capture their memories for quite some time now. From family portrait sessions to weddings, we’re so honored to have been there. We reunited with the Davis family yet again this past weekend for their daughter Beth’s wedding. Beth and Neil are just the perfect couple, and in spite of the torrential rainfall on their special day, they made the best of things with a carefree, memorable, one-of-a-kind wedding. Beth showed so much grace and optimism where so many of us would have been beside ourselves had it rained on our wedding day! Not Beth! This bride jumped in the pool and trashed the dress! She danced with her new hubby beneath the waterfall without a care in the world! These are the moments. Congratulations, Beth and Neil … from our family to yours! We look forward to capturing your memories for many years to come!
