I just got back from KPPA (Kentucky Professional Photographer’s Association) last night and can’t tell you all how excited I am to announce that I was named one of Kentucky’s “Top 10” photographers in the state!  The convention was 4 days long and jam packed with classes, fun and catching up with my photographer friends.

Print Competition was all day Friday, and my prints were judged by six judges on: impact, creativity, style, composition, presentation, center of interest, lighting…use and control of lighting, demension of lighting, color balance, technical excellence, technique, and (my favorite) storytelling.

I was pleased to receive 3 new Blue Ribbon of Merit Awards!!!

Fast Forward to the awards banquet on Saturday night…I just about lost my mind when my name was called not once, not twice, but THREE times…

First…for 2nd place in State, Portrait category (out of HUNDREDS!!!!!!!!!!)…Blue Ribbon of Merit Award and receiving an “excellent” rating:

“Loving Arms”…

I want to thank my family for allowing me to be intensley focused on competition.  My competitive nature fuels my desire to provide my clients with beautiful custom portraits…and this allows my clients to see just how dedicated I am to the mastery of this craft!

…Well, where do I begin?  I can HONESTLY say that today is the first day I’ve been able to speak in about 10 days!!!!!!  Yes…my family has really enjoyed the peace and quiet, but I’ve been busting at the mouth to speak!  My kids haven’t been yelled at since before Christmas.  I have tried to self diagnose the entire 10 days and have determined that I must have had the flu…

…I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas!  I have a tiny gift for everyone of my dear clients that came in to the studio last year.  You should be getting it per United States Postal Service by the end of this week or beginning of next…just a little token of my appreciation for giving me the privilege of photographing your family…sorry about the delay…I’ve just been so ill!  So thank you, thank you, thank you… for an extraordinary year…an extraordinary Christmas season…and for the gifts and baked goodies I  truly loved receiving! (for some reason the flu didn’t take my apetite).

…NOW’S THE TIME TO SQUASH A RUMOR!!!!!!!!!!

…No, I regret to inform everyone who has asked me or help spread this glorious rumor…I WILL NOT BE PHOTOGRAPHING FAITH HILL AND TIM M. !!!!!!!!!   Don’t get me wrong…if Annie Leibovitz doesn’t take care of them, I’ll gladly just hop on down to Nashville and give them an original "Suzanne" experience…but I’m not counting my chickens…in one of my own clients words, "Suzanne…you could really go places if the people in your own town didn’t keep you so busy…"

But you know what?  This place…Eastern, Ky…is exactly where I WANT to be.  I love to travel, no doubt, but there’s no place like home.

We have an exciting year planned…or…ummm…will get to planning tomorrow!  New products, new sessions, new things at the studio, new stuff on the website, new ways of displaying your ART!  I will be doing some mentoring next week with a photographer from Holly Hills, NC…her name is Michelle and she’s driving all this way just to visit my neck of the woods and learn more about natural light.  She doesn’t need my help, but I can’t wait to meet her and see what I can learn from her!   I’m in the mood to vamp it up, ramp it up, kick it up a notch…do something unruly!  Could just be all the coffee I’ve drunk this morning.

I’ve already got a NEW customer wanting to schedule for Christmas 2008!  Can you imagine that?  I owe it all to my great clients who sent out a bazillion Christmas cards all over the country!

I have to post a few images from a newborn session I did…this will kick off my New Year’s resolution of blogging about every single session…what a WONDERFUL way to start off a year…with a tiny little baby girl that was as beautiful as could be…and I could hand her back to her mama after I got my fill…

meet Sophia…parents are Kristi and Greg Reynolds of Lexington, KY…she was about 15 days old at time of shoot.

…and last one…Kristi said I could do whatever I wanted…and she trusted me completely with her little princess while I worked my "baby magic" …so, I had my eye on this little frog footstool all day…anyway, my interpretation of the "Princess & the Frog"…

It is no secret that my family and closest friends ALL get put on the backburner when it gets about September…I mean, I literally squeeze them into a Christmas card last minute…but, thankfully, they say it’s worth the wait!  Words cannot express how thankful I truly am for ALL their support! They are my biggest cheerleaders.

So…here they are…first, my 3 nephews…Matthew, Mason, and Maddox…ages 2, 4 and 7!

and together…yes, it can be accomplished with some patience!

Backno_words

Here are my other 2 nephews…Luke and Kaleb…with my niece Isabella standing in the middle of them!  God help us all get these three raised!  The last time Isabella saw someone at my church get baptized, she wanted to know (rather loudly) what that man was doing up there in that FISH TANK!??

Laurenkids_alone

and a montage of the entire Christmas session…

Next we have Skylar, Wade, Hank and Max…don’t ask me their ages, I just know there are FOUR OF THEM!  And let me emphasize…THESE BOYS HAD A BALL!  It is possible they will star in their own band someday!

Laura_jo

speaking of FOUR BOYS…here’s another set…Kolby, Kaden, Kolin & Kison!  Try saying that 10 times really fast……………….

Hillman_boys

Here’s Beau, Jack and Campbell…every year Beau says this is the last year he is going to be on a Christmas card, soooooooooooooo totally uncool where he is concerned!

Tracie

continuing on with the boy theme I’ve got going here…meet Grinch, err, uhhh, Ryland!  and his first cousin Hagen!

Michelle_gross

Boys2

little Landon…who never stops smiling!

Landon

I will throw some girl power in the mix now…these girls came ready to rock with their red hair extensions!  They mainly had to keep after their little brother though…McCall, Myra Jo and Tate…

Daphne

another bunch of kids that I’ve been photographing for over 4 years now…Cindi was one of my very first customers…and I mean, very first…back in the film days…which seems a lifetime ago to me…she has become a friend and often, a shoulder to (cry) I mean hash ideas out on!  She can tell when I’m about to lose my mind, and has been so patient during my "growing pains"…

her 3…Taylor, Matt and Parker…

Cindi_williams

Taylor just wants her 2 front teeth for Christmas!

Taylor2

Taylor

I have a few more of them I will try to post later.  I don’t have access to them on this computer!

Still to come this week more Christmas sessions…stay tuned or clicked in for Abby & Presley, Rayce & Cailyn!…and Eleni & Zoe!

thanks for looking!
